Award for Tropical Ophthalmology to Dr. Johann Dillinger

At the annual congress of the German Ophthalmological Society (DOG) from 26-29 September 2019, ophthalmologist Dr. Johann Dillinger was honoured with the Award for Tropical Ophthalmology. The DOG awards the prize for outstanding contributions to blindness prevention in developing countries.

Dr. Dillinger has been working in Africa for more than 20 years as a helper and teacher. During this time, he has organized more than 30 short-term missions with a focus on Uganda, introducing many colleagues to cataract surgery. Since 2002, he has accompanied the construction and furnishing of an eye clinic with an optician's workshop in Kibosho near Moshi in Tanzania with the help of the association "Aktionskreis Ostafrika" (www.aktionskreis-ostafrika.de) at the mission hospital there and continues to look after this clinic.

We congratulate Dr. Dillinger on this award and thank him for his tireless support of our work.
