Record number of cataract patients operated on in Maprik, Papua New Guinea.

In East Sepik Province, a team of four ophthalmologists operated on nearly 500 patients to restore their vision within a multi-institutional outreach. This fantastic result was well above the expected target and demonstrates both the commitment of the outreach team and the great need for accessible ophthalmic care in the region.

At Brigiti Health Post, the team operated late into the night every day for three grueling weeks. Even problems with the power supply did not prevent the ophthalmologists from performing up to 40 operations per day. Included in the equipment: one of our FLAIR microscopes.
