ENT team back from mission in Myanmar

Accompanied by the reports on the refugee drama of the Rohingyas in northern Rakhine, a 9-member team of ENT doctors, anaesthetists and theatre nurses from the EAGLE European Association of Global Lecturing ENT e.V. was in Myanmar from 5th to 19th November 2017 for the second time.

The first part of the program was a three-day surgery course at the university in Mandalay. There one was welcomed by very eager colleagues, worked successfully with 26 participants from all over Myanmar and passed on knowledge about ear surgery to them.

Afterwards, together with two Burmese ENT-colleagues, they operated once again in Thandwe, Rakhine. 354 outpatients were examined and 34 ear operations were performed. During these operations, work was carried out in parallel on two operating tables, each with one of our portable microscopes.

Afterwards - and quite surprisingly - the team was given a special honour: On the occasion of the Asian Congress of all ear, nose and throat specialists in Asia (Asean Congress of Otorhinolaryngology), the association was presented with a "Fellowship Award" for its continuous work and support since 2010. An incredibly high distinction!
